I am a great believer in the power of higher education to change lives for the better and am delighted to be part of a team of dedicated faculty and staff at one of California’s premier community colleges. College of Marin has much to offer and welcomes students from all walks of life. College of Marin’s Superintendent/President David Wain Coon, Ed.D., began his tenure in December 2010. Throughout a 25-year career in higher education, Dr. Coon has been recognized for his leadership locally, regionally, and nationally. He came to Marin following a successful five-year stint as president of Evergreen Valley College in San Jose where he championed a richly diverse student body. Prior to Evergreen Valley College, Dr. Coon held a variety of administrative positions in the Washington State Community College system.
Dr. Coon has a bachelor of arts degree in communications and public relations from Central Washington University, a master of education degree in student personnel administration from Western Washington University, and a doctor of education degree in educational leadership with emphasis in organizational development from Seattle University.
Dr. Coon was presented with the 2006 Special Achievement Award by the Central Washington University Alumni Association. In May 2007, Central Washington University dedicated the David Wain Coon Center for Excellence in Leadership. He has taken great pride in helping to shape the Center in a manner consistent with his own sense of humility, integrity, and commitment to service.Administration
The Superintendent/President is the chief executive officer of the District serving under the direction of the Board of Trustees. The Superintendent/ President provides overall administrative leadership to the College and monitors institutional adherence to the policies prescribed and adopted by the Board of Trustees. The President also provides institutional leadership in carrying out the mission and strategic goals of the College.
There are 8 cabinet members reporting to the Superintendent/President. Salary and Benefit information is available in the 2015-16 Adoption Budget starting on page 74.
