Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom to Speak at COM Commencement

Kentfield, CA—May 13, 2013—Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, former mayor of San Francisco, will be the honored speaker at College of Marin's 86th annual commencement ceremony.

Gavin Newsom was elected as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of California on November 2, 2010. His top priorities are economic development and job creation, improving access to higher education, and maintaining California’s environmental leadership. His background includes the start-up of 15 small businesses, creating more than 1,000 jobs in the private sector, and serving as a County Supervisor and the Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco. He has recently published the book “Citizenville” that challenges ordinary citizens to use digital tools to dissolve political gridlock and transform American democracy. He also has hosted the “Gavin Newsom Show” on Current TV and is a regularly featured guest on Meet the Press, Bill Maher and CNN.

COM’s 86th annual commencement exercises will take place on Friday, May 24, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the Diamond Physical Education Center, 700 College Ave., Kentfield, CA. The ceremony will be followed by a reception for students and their families.
