Blue Schist on Ring Mountain

The blue-schist metamorphic block in the foreground below is sitting within melange in a saddle eroded through the serpentine sheets that cap the two summits in the Ring Mountain area. The garnet-glaucophane schist block on the ridge in the distance is sitting upon the bouldery serpentine sheet that forms the eastern most summit. The boundary between the melange and serpentine can be recognized by the change in the nature of the soil, rock cover and at some times in the year a contrasting plant cover.
