The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program prepares students to become teachers or directors in children’s centers, nursery and preschools, prekindergartens, infant-toddler programs, employer-supported children’s centers, extended daycare or family day-care programs. Students can complete the coursework and training needed to meet California Community Care Licensing requirements and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements for the six levels of the Child Development Permit. Graduates of this two-year program are awarded the A.S. in Early Childhood Education. Students who complete 43 units of coursework will qualify for the Early Childhood Education Certificate of Achievement and have completed most of the ECE coursework required for their A.S. degree. Students completing 12 units of coursework receive an Early Childhood Education Core Skills Certificate which enables them to be a teacher in a Title 22 preschool or children’s Center and be eligible to apply for the Associate Teacher level of the Child Development permit. |
