Agenda
Discussion Items
1. Guest
Anita Martinez:
- Anita
asked the Committee to give her specific info on the Distance Education
liaison/coordinator position.
2. Guest Bernie Blackman:
- Bernie asked
for feedback from the Committee on what software packages should be used
to provide demographic, industry, occupational, and curricula forecasts
and impacts by region.
3. Frank
Crosby’s Audio Demo:
- MP3
recordings of Frank’s lectures are available in his WebCT courses and a
live demo was given.
- Student
feedback is positive; half of his students in his history class have accessed
the audio portion of the course.
- ADA
Compliance and accessibility concerns were raised, but the needed
technology for downloading recordings is minimal: a quick Internet
connection and a media player.
- Different
ways to record lectures were discussed. Chancellor-supported CCCConfer has
an archival method using Horizon Live which may be an alternative to
recording lectures.
4.
WebCT:
- Hosting
through the CVC will end July 1 and will CoM self-host? Self-hosting has
advantages, one being lower cost.
- Rick
states that this is a short-term interim solution—a two year solution
because eventually the new ERP will make possible an integrated, upgraded
version of WebCT.
- Price of
server is $11,00 roughly and if this will be approved by administration,
implementation will need to start by May 1st.
- Faculty
and student support of WebCT is needed, and this is an urgent need because
CoM is losing students.
5. Student Domain Server implementation:
- Steve
reports that a two phase plan is in the works for a student domain so that
all lab across campus will have the same login info.
6. Status of
Online Directory:
- Rainer
gave another demonstration of the online Employee Directory which will go
live this week.
- Get the
word out: Faculty, staff and administrators should add to their personal
profiles via the Intranet.

draft a letter to Anita Martinez requesting the following: 1) urgent need for
WebCT server 2) urgent need for WebCT support, including staff training in
