Students receive a placement score immediately following their test session We only test students who are enrolling at College of Marin. We do not give placement tests to students who are planning to attend a different community college. All testing is done by appointment only, during scheduled dates and times. Other times may be available at the discretion of the Testing Office. Some test dates may be cancelled without notice. Testing is always done at the Kentfield Testing Office unless a different location is specifically listed. Students can access sample tests via the Accuplacer website at: www.collegeboard.com This schedule is for returning students. Brand new full-time students should take placement tests at a Student Success Workshop, where an orientation and a counseling appointment is given. Assessment and Testing Department
New students must sign up for a Student Success Workshop that includes an orientation and the placement tests. New Students are students with less than 15 units at another College. Please refer to the Class Schedule for the dates and times of the Success Workshops. Getting the Most Out of Your Placement Testing Experience at COM Placement tests are an important first step for students at the College of Marin. Based on student feedback and our own experience, the Testing Office would like to emphasize some helpful tips for students planning to take the placement exam. Review the Material A placement test is designed to assess you when you are at the best of your abilities. Reviewing the relevant material is important to ensuring that you are placed in a course level which is neither too challenging nor too easy for your abilities. Because the test assesses how well you succeed when you have applied yourself, if you have not prepared for the test it may not accurately reflect your abilities. For this reason the Testing Office strongly encourages all students to review the subject or subjects they are testing. An overview and sample questions can be found at: Test at Your Best The Testing Office provides students with a reduced-distraction testing environment, but some things are beyond our control. If you know that you will have difficulties or distractions at certain times of the day then we advise you not to test at those times. If you are feeling unwell or tired, the testing office can reschedule you for a different date. Test Early Placement tests are most in demand around the start of a semester. By testing before a semester's enrollment begins you will not only avoid the crowds but have more time to prepare for the coming semester, choose your classes, and speak with a counselor. Arrive on Time Arriving promptly gives you the greatest amount of time in which to take your placement test. Although the amount of time you have to test is not limited, the testing office can only remain open during scheduled hours. If in the course of testing you require more time than is available you may come back to finish your test on a date no later than two weeks from the date you started the test. Should you need to do so we strongly recommend you make a second appointment for as soon a date as possible so that the material is fresh in your mind. Your placement results will not be available until you have completed your entire test. Accuplacer tests can be taken only two times within a two-year period
