The focus of this course is on the individual and will include such issues as self-concept, self- esteem, identity, social and cultural influences, coping mechanisms, personality change, relationships, and mental health. The material is presented through a combination of lecture, discussion, and activities. PSY 112 3.0 units Child and Adolescent Psychology The understanding of children and adolescents through the study of psychological and developmental changes. This course will examine the psychology of violent acts including self- mutilation, suicide, domestic violence, child and elder abuse, sexual assault, violence in schools and in the workplace, and hate crimes. Transfer Credit: CSU 2386 CANCELLED 01/18/08 Brailoff M T 6:10-9pm, KTD/FH110 PSY 130 3.0 units Intro to Sport and Exercise Psychology This course provides an introduction to the theoretical and applied aspects of psychology in sport and exercise settings. PSY 140 3.0 units Marriage, Family, and Intimate Relationships The examination of a variety of intimate social and family relationships and how they function. Transfer Credit: CSU/UC 2388 Broderick D W 6:10-9pm, KTD/DH101 PSY 204 3.0 units Abnormal Psychology Prerequisite: PSY 110 ADVISED A survey of the major diagnostic disorders and theories of causes of mental illness; psychotherapeutic methods. Transfer Credit: CSU/UC 2389 Brailoff M E MW 2:10-3:30pm, KTD/FH110 PSY 205 3.0 units Intro to Research Methods and Data Analysis in Psychology Prerequisite: PSY 110;STAT ADVISED This course prepares students for upper division work in the psychology major. It examines the following topics: conducting Internet and library research; formulating testable hypotheses; qualitative and quantitative methods of examining processes; methods of examining causality; methods of examining the power of social events; methods of examining the associations between phenomena. In addition, this course trains students in the appropriate selection and use on nonparametric and parametric statistics. May be taken as PSY 205 or SOC 205. Students may receive credit for only one course. Transfer Credit: CSU/UC 2390 Brailoff M W 6:10-9pm, KTD/FH110 PSY 230 3.0 units Social Psychology This is an interdisciplinary course covering altruism; attitude formation and attitude change; conformity; person perception and social labeling; reference groups; social conflict and conflict resolution; human aggression; intergroup processes; intragroup processes; interpersonal attraction; social networks, statuses and roles; and the social development of the self. This course may be taken as a psychology or a sociology course but not both. Transfer Credit: CSU/UC 2391 Christensen P T 6:10-9pm, KTD/DH101 PSY 251 3.0 units The Brain: Mind and Body The study of the human brain as it relates to psychological topics including consciousness, cognition, drugs, learning disorders, language, sexuality, dreams, and senility.
