MULTIMEDIA STUDIES

Directed study courses are offered at the IVC campus. MMST 110 3.0 units Intro to Multimedia Multimedia is the new and exciting synthesis of art, video, sound, and animation. This class will explore the important components and issues in designing and producing multimedia including markets, content, and phases of production. Through lecture and demonstration, students will gain an understanding of the process of building multimedia as well as insight into its aesthetic and historical frameworks. Transfer Credit: CSU 2177 Wilson D N T 11:10-2pm, KTD/FA225 Entry Level Course about Multimedia Projects MMST 111 3.0 units Multimedia Production Prerequisite: CIS 110 ADVISED Students will be introduced to team development and production schedules as they learn the basic tools and methods for developing graphics, sound, video, and authored environments that simulate real-life projects. ($5 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 2178 Gonzalez J J F 9:10-2pm, KTD/FA225 Software: Flash CS3, PhotoShop CS3, Director 8.0 MMST 114 3.0 units Intro to Game Design This course will introduce students to the basics of game design and theory using analysis, research, critiques and group based projects. Students will learn about the Game Industry through assignments that simulate employment by a game developer. ($5 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5163 Maxwell D Sat 10:10-1pm, IVC/PM199 MMST 123 3.0 units Intro to Multimedia Design Prerequisite: ART 112 ADVISED Use of current digital tools to develop effective concepts, illustrations, and designs for multimedia based projects. This is a foundation Multimedia Studies course. ($5 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5164 Wilson D J MW 9:40-12noon, IVC/PM192 Software: Illustrator CS3 and PhotoShop CS3 MMST 151 3.0 units Digital Illustration and Animation Prerequisite: MMST 123 ADVISED Current digital tools will be used to create original, illustrative, and interactive content for multimedia and print-based projects. ($5 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5165 Wilson D L MW 1:10-3:30pm, IVC/PM192 Software: Illustrator CS3 and Flash CS3 MMST 155 1.5 units Software Applications for Multimedia: Web Authoring Prerequisite: MMST 131 This course will provide specific knowledge and hands-on experience in one or more commercial multimedia authoring applications. ($2 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5203 1/22-3/20 Gonzalez J Web Based Course, 5 hrs/wk TBA, KTD/IVC Software: Adobe Dreamweaver Please see Distance Learning page. There are no on-campus attendance requirements for this section. Students can communicate by phone, email, and online conference. MMST 158 3.0 units Audio Production Prerequisite: MMST 144 ADVISED This course will provide intermediate knowledge of generating digital audio, editing, design and effects using current digital software, hardware and techniques. Assignments involve practice tutorials and the creation of original projects using current digital tools. ($10 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5166 Gonzalez J TTh 5:10-7:30pm, IVC/PM190 Software: ProTools and Garageband MMST 163 3.0 units 3D Character Animation: Complex Lighting and Materials This class will focus on the intended purpose of 3D lighting and materials and how to dress it for believability, including atmospheres and particle systems, as well as special effects such as glows, flares, and blurs. ($7 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5167 Abouaf J M F 10:10-3:30pm, IVC/PM190 Software: 3D Studio Max, EON Reality Studio MMST 166 3.0 units Digital Video Editing and Motion Graphics Prerequisite: MMST 143 ADVISED This course will provide specific knowledge and hands-on experience in video editing and effects using a variety of software applications. Students will learn advanced techniques and develop strong skills for production of multimedia and video projects. ($5 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5168 Sutherland K MW 7:10-9:30pm, IVC/PM192 Software: After Effects, Final Cut Pro HD, Motion MMST 223 3.0 units Print and Packaging Design Prerequisite: MMST 150,151 ADVISED Students will use current digital tools to develop effective concept and methods of 2-D and 3-D design for books, packaging, and products. ($5 material fee) Transfer Credit: CSU 5169 Wilson D MW 4:10-6:30pm, IVC/PM192 Software: Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3, Indesign CS3 MMST 231 3.0 units Scripting and Interactive Production This course is an introduction to scripting languages and their use within popular multimedia authoring tools to design and develop more interactive or data driven Web sites and other multimedia products.
