DENT 178 3.0 units Dental Specialties II Prerequisite: ENGL 92/92SL; ENGL 98 ADVSD The study of oral pathology, preventive nutrition, medical emergencies, pharmacology and the special needs patient as they relate to dentistry. Applied psychology and verbal communication as related to dental patient management will be discussed. Transfer Credit: CSU 1867 Rooney K F W 8:10-11am, KTD/HC156 DENT 183 1.0 unit Advanced Dental Procedures Prerequisite: DENT 180;TAKE W/183L This course provides basic knowledge for expanded functions for the Registered Dental Assistant for Coronal Polishing, topical Fluorides, Bleaching and Ultrasonic Scaler cement removal. Transfer Credit: CSU 1868 Wilgis M H W 11:40-12:30pm, KTD/HC156 Students must take one DENT 183L (lab) with this course. DENT 183L 0.5 unit Advanced Dental Procedures Lab Prerequisite: TAKE WITH DENT 183 Instruction will cover Coronal Polish Certificate, application of topical fluorides, construction of custom bleaching trays and mouth guards and the use of ultrasonic scalers to remove excess cement. DENT 184 4.0 units Chairside Procedures II Prerequisite: DENT 176,180; W/184L The student will have instruction for the dental specialties such as surgical endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, removable prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry and assisting with nitrous oxide sedation. The student will also learn to fabricate temporary restorations and temporary crown and bridges. DENT 184L 1.0 unit Chairside II Lab Prerequisite: TAKE WITH DENT 184 The student will be taught fabrication of temporary crowns, procedures for orthodontic, and pediatric dentistry offices. Transfer Credit: CSU 1878 Hom G 3hrs/wk TBA, KTD/HC156 DENT 188 6.0 units Clinical Application: Chairside Functions and Operative Procedures Prerequisite: DENT 176 Clinical practice utilizing four-handed dentistry and RDA functions at University of California Dental School in San Francisco and private dental offices or clinics. Weekly seminars are held to discuss student progress, provide instruction and provide suggestions for student improvement. The course will also cover legal parameters of the State Dental Practice Act with regards to dental auxiliaries and HIPAA Patient Privacy Regulations. Transfer Credit: CSU 1880 Wilgis M N F 11:10-12noon, KTD/HC156 DENT 190L 1.0 unit Dental Practice Management and Economics Lab Prerequisite: TAKE WITH DENT 190 This lab course will provide a practice to develop an entry-level skill and background in all phases of dental reception and office management functions. The course will also cover legal parameters of the State Dental Practice Act with regards to dental auxiliaries and HIPAA Patient Privacy Regulations.
