The course includes a management/economic computer simulation component designed to provide students with experience operating a simulated business. This course is designed to be the first course in accounting for transfer business students, vocational bookkeeping students, as well as small business owners and managers. BUS 113 5.0 units Managerial Accounting Prerequisite: BUS 112A & 112B Managerial cost concepts, cost accounting systems, cost profit relationships, budgeting, and standard costs analysis. This course is designed for business entrepreneurs who will be using a computerized accounting system in their business as well as students training to be professional accountants. Subjects will include an overview of the software, setting up a company, entering, working with lists, setting up inventory, paying bills, payroll, and preparation of reports and graphs. Covers the environment, resources, business plan, accounting, financing, marketing, management, and legal aspects. This course includes industry and market research and requires students (teams) to write a business plan. This is accomplished by a series of lectures and discussions, research assignments, the utilization of computer software and individual consultation by the instructor. Transfer Credit: CSU 1699 3/31-5/19 Boyd S M 6:10-9:20pm, KTD/DH103 BUS 141 2.0 units Intermediate Business English Prerequisite: BUS 97 This is a professional-level course in grammar, usage, punctuation, and editing for students of business or technical writing, medical transcription, and court reporting. Transfer Credit: CSU 5037 Tjernell L C M 12:10-2pm, IVC/OL200 BUS 144 3.0 units Business Communication Prerequisite: BUS 97 ADVISED Students will learn to write letters, memoranda, resumes, reports, and other business documents easily and effectively. Transfer Credit: CSU 1700 Wilson B Web Based Course, 3hrs/wk TBA, KTD/IVC Please see Distance Learning page. In this online business writing course, students will need access to a home or school computer, an Internet connection, and Microsoft Word. Students should be familiar with sending and receiving e-mail and with using a Web browser to navigate and search Web sites. There are no on-campus attendance requirements for this course except for a final exam. Students should register, using the four-digit section number. Once officially registered, students MUST also send an e-mail message to the instructor at brian.wilson@marin.edu to verify enrollment in the class and to AVOID BEING DROPPED. Books are needed the first week of class. Students should plan on spending at least six hours per week in studying and developing their writing skills.
