AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Directed study courses are offered at the IVC campus. AUTO 95 1.0 unit Applied Automotive Math A course designed to prepare students for mathematical problems encountered in the automotive repair industry. This course is required for students who wish to complete the Automotive Technology or Automotive Collision Repair Certificates. 5023 4/15-5/13 Palmer R T 6:10-9:15pm, IVC/PM108 May be taken for credit as AUTO 95 or ACRT 95. Students receive credit for only one course. AUTO 112 4.0 units Automotive Engines This course will include disassembly, diagnosis, reassembly, and start-up. Machine shop skills are not included. Transfer Credit: CSU 5024 Palmer R B TTh 1:10-2pm, IVC/PM254 and TTh 2:10-5pm, IVC/PM127 and Sat 8:10-5pm, IVC/PM127 Meets Sat: 3/8 and 3/15. No class 2/5; 3/4; 4/1; 5/6. AUTO 116 6.0 units Automotive Electrical Systems This course includes theory and function of cranking systems, charging systems, ignition systems, and accessory systems. Testing, diagnosis, and repair will be emphasized. Transfer Credit: CSU 5025 1/23-5/12 Hritz G MWF 1:10-2pm, IVC/PM254 and MWF 2:10-5pm, IVC/PM127 and Sat 8:10-5pm, IVC/PM127 Meets Sat: 5/10. Final Exam 5/12 AUTO 225 2.0 units Automotive Careers and Customer Relations Speakers from industry will discuss independent repair shops, dealerships, and service station operations. Transfer Credit: CSU 5026 1/22-4/01 Palmer R, Willits R T 6:10-9pm, IVC/PM108 Note: Room changed from PM255 to PM108 May be taken for credit as AUTO 225 or ACRT 225. Students receive credit for only one course. AUTO 232 4.0 units Auto Transmission/Transaxles This course covers theory and repairs to planetary gearing, hydraulics, bearings, bushings, thrust washers, control devices, valve bodies, governors, and regulator valves. Transfer Credit: CSU 5027 1/22-4/29 Hritz G TF 8:10-9am, IVC/PM254 and TF 9:10-12noon, IVC/PM127 and Sat 8:10-5pm, IVC/PM127 Meets Sat: 2/23 and 3/1. Final 4/29. AUTO 233 4.0 units Manual Drive Trains and Axles This course covers theory and repairs to clutches, manual transmissions, transaxles, universal joints and driveaxles. AUTO 238 3.5 units Basic Area Clean Air Car Course All technicians who wish to become State licensed smog inspection technicians, must take the Basic Area Clean Air Car course to partially satisfy the educational prerequisite for either Basic or Enhanced areas. Transfer Credit: CSU 5029 1/23-3/26 Willits R MW 6:10-10pm, IVC/PM254/PM127 AUTO 240 1.0 unit Enhanced Area Clean Air Car Course This course partially satisfies the educational prerequisite to become an "Advanced Emission Specialist" smog inspection technician of the Bureau of Automotive Repair. Transfer Credit: CSU 5030 4/14-5/07 Willits R MW 6:10-10pm, IVC/PM254/PM127 AUTO 241 0.5 unit Bar 2007 Smog Check Technician Update Training Course All licensed Smog Check technicians whose licenses expire after December 31, 2006 must complete the 2007 Update Training Course prior to applying to renew their licenses. Individuals applying for initial licenses (received by BAR) after December 31, 2006 must have completed this course to be eligible for the licensing examination. This course is also useful for students wishing to gain knowledge and experience in repairing engine performance malfunctions.
