Happy Holidays As we look forward to celebrating the holidays with family and friends, I would like to extend my appreciation to each and every one of you for your dedication and hard work throughout the year. I wish you a safe and restful winter break and look forward to welcoming our students in January for the spring 2013 semester. Kudos Fiscal Services Accountant Michelle Greitzer recently earned her Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) designation from the Association of Government Accountants. CGFM is a professional certification recognizing the unique skills required of today’s government financial managers. It covers governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting, internal controls, and budgeting at the federal, state, and local levels. Congratulations Michelle! Campus Security Report Available Online College of Marin’s annual Campus Security Report is available online. This report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for the school. The policy statements address the school’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security; for example, policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. Three years worth of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. You may also request a paper copy from the Police Department, Kentfield Campus, TB-1. I am extremely pleased to have College of Marin Anthropology and Archaeology instructor Betty Goerke as our Spring 2013 Convocation keynote speaker! A much-loved COM instructor for over 30 years, Betty has dedicated much of her career to researching native history. She will focus her presentation on the Coast Miwok Indians who inhabited our campus for generations. Betty is the author of Chief Marin: Leader, Rebel, and Legend and the recently published, Discovering Native People at Point Reyes. She has received numerous teaching awards over the years, including the College of Marin Outstanding Teacher Award and has earned accolades for her archeological fieldwork in California, Colorado, Greece, Holland, Kenya, Austria, China, and India. Betty has published numerous articles and papers and produced several videos including Archaeology: Questioning the Past, which features COM students doing archeological fieldwork in Colorado and California. Although she retired from her full-time position in 2004, Betty has continued teaching at the college, most recently with Community Education and Services.
