College of Marin Diamond Physical Education Center Modernization Ground Breaking Ceremony

The College of Marin Board of Trustees and Superintendent/President Frances L. White, Ph.D. are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the modernization of the Diamond Physical Education Center. Construction is scheduled to begin in early April. The community is invited to attend free of charge.

The refurbished center will feature the installation of photovoltaic technology, which is expected to provide half of the electrical energy required to run the facility. Construction also will include a new gym floor, new roof, new lighting, new HVAC mechanical systems, renovation of the entire gym, ADA upgrades, solar thermal to heat the pool, and reconfiguration of locker rooms to provide equal space for men and women. The costs of the renovations are estimated at $15.5 million. Bids for the project will open later this month.

College of Marin Measure C Bond Citizens’ Oversight Committee Solicits New Members
Seven committee members are being sought to serve on the College of Marin Measure C Bond Citizens’ Oversight Committee for the Measure C bond program. The committee is seeking applications for members representing: the community at large, a bona-fide taxpayer’s association, a student enrolled and active in a community college support group, a member of a senior citizens’ organization, a member active in a business organization representing the business community located in the district, and a member active in a college support organization. New members will be appointed by the College of Marin Board of Trustees at its April meeting. Applications are due March 28, 2008. Oversight committee members cannot be employees, officials, vendors, consultants, or contractors of the College of Marin. KudosV-Anne Chernock, Director of Modernization, has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Joint Powers Authority for the Statewide Educational Wrap-up Program (SEWUP). The JPA represents 400 school and community college districts throughout California who are participants in SEWUP, an owner-controlled insurance program designed specifically for educational facility construction contracts. The College of Marin is a member of the JPA and is using this program for its Measure C bond modernization projects.

Performing Arts Department ScheduleBenefit performance
The COMF is hosting a preview performance of A Midsummer’s Night Dream on Thursday, February 28, Fine Arts Theatre, to benefit The Drama Student Fund. The performance starts at 8:00 p.m., with a reception beforehand from 6:45-7:45 p.m., and
Q & A after the performance conducted by Director Jim Dunn and cast. Cost is $40 per person. To reserve a space, please send a check to COMF.

A Performing Arts Department combined production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be offered on February 29, March 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 8 p.m. and March 9 and 16 at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. This production will be directed by James Dunn, with musical direction by Tara Flandreau and choreography by Sandra Tanner. It is set to the music of Felix Mendelssohn and will be performed by the COM Orchestra. Tickets are $18 for general and $15 for students, seniors, COM staff, and alumni.
