New Web Page for Board Policies and ProceduresAs you know, the college is in the process of updating our Board Policies and Administrative Procedures. Administrators and members of the College Council’s Board Policy & Procedure Task Force are working with Dr. Jane Wright of the Community College League of California (CCLC) to ensure that all revised policies and procedures reflect college practice and comply with current laws and regulations. CCLC, along with legal counsel from the law firm of Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, has recommended language for policies and procedures that is used by community colleges throughout the state. We are renumbering our policies and procedures to align with the CCLC system so that updates can be easily addressed in the future. This will replace the old “Gold Book.”

You may see newly approved policies and procedures on the Board of Trustees web page at www.marin.edu/com/ODP/BoardPolicies.htm. For information about existing policies and procedures that have not yet been revised, you may contact Melinda Molloy in the President’s Office at ext. 7508 or Kathleen Kirkpatrick in the Office of Organizational Development and Planning at ext. 7344.

As policies and procedures are approved, we will notify the college community by global email messages. Regular updates will also be included in the President’s Monday Briefing.

Board Policies, approved by the Board of Trustees, are broad statements that define general goals and practices for the operation of the District. Administrative Procedures implement these policies and are recommended by College Council. The superintendent/president has final approval. Administrative Procedures go to the Board as Information Items. More information about the Board Policy Revision Project and the work of the BP/AP Task Force, including proposed policies and procedures, may be found on the Board Policy Revision Project web page.

The Board Policies and Procedures listed below were recently approved and are posted on the Board Policy web page. All employees are asked to review the new Prohibition of Harassment policy and procedure.

Parking NotificationOngoing construction on the Kentfield campus continues to impact parking as the new semester gets underway. To help alleviate congestion:

  • A portion of Parking Lot 12 (adjacent to the Diamond PE Center) has been re-opened temporarily, returning 37 spaces to campus use.
  • Faculty and staff are encouraged to use available “staff only” spaces, leaving other spaces open for students.
  • ALL (faculty, staff and students) are encouraged to carpool or use public transit whenever possible.

Parking continues to be available in Lot 15, across Kent Avenue near the campus Corporation Yard.

KudosHuman Resources technician Kirsten Gisle and Human Resources specialist Pearl Monemzadeh were on hand to staff a College of Marin booth Jan. 27 at the City Career Fair held at the Oakland Marriott. About 20 employers and hundreds of job seekers came together for the day of information and introductions. The COM booth can be seen in a CBS Channel 5 clip on riding out the recession. Thank you both for participating in an event that is a valuable community resource during tough economic times.
