Testing office update Last summer, the Academic Senate was asked to consider the problem of escalating use of the Testing Office for various kinds of academic testing, including make-up testing for Distance Education (DE) courses and traditional courses. This testing created workload and space difficulties for the Testing Office and interfered with placement and other kinds of testing that are necessary in order for students to enroll in classes. Because of its complexity, the matter was referred to a Task Force including interested faculty, testing staff, students and administrators. After a series of meetings during August and September, the Task Force recommended that, during a six-week period while the leadership of the Academic Senate and administration could study the problem, the Testing Office would continue to proctor academic tests or exams under a set of conditions intended to make it possible for them to carry on their work. This six-week period will be over on Thursday, October 19. I am pleased to report that the faculty has responded positively to the situation, and because of the reduced number of academic tests now being sent to the Testing Office, testing staff have agreed to continue offering these services under the specified conditions during the rest of fall 2006. In addition, the College has agreed to provide additional hours of staffing in the Testing Office at times that are convenient for students enrolled in Distance Education courses (additional days and times listed below). The additional hours for DE will include not only testing services but also a point of contact for students who may need tutoring in basic student success skills. We are exploring possible locations for providing DE students with academic support and extended testing hours in spring 07. Meantime, this situation has highlighted the need for us to move forward in the process of identifying a faculty liaison for Distance Education.
Additional distance education testing hours for fall Wednesday evening Testing Office hours in Kentfield will be extended from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at both KTD and IVC on the following dates:
