LRC “Chiller” repairs are underway The chiller (air conditioning unit) in the Learning Resource Center failed last month. Maintenance and Operations contacted the manufacturer immediately to evaluate the problem. The building fans are continuing to run providing fresh air, but the incoming air can not be cooled because the chiller is down. The contractor was on site within a day and found it was necessary to disassemble the equipment in order to identify why the unit failed. Parts for the chiller were not immediately available and had to be ordered. The contractor hopes to have the equipment up and running within two weeks. For additional information contact the M & O Office at ext. 7451.

Re-entry/CalWORKs Department SLO report
This report has been submitted by Professors Joetta Tenison-Scott and Sherry Saccuzzo.
Our students are adults 25 and older who are re-entering college after a break in their education. We specialize in working with students who are parents or families receiving cash-aid from CalWORKs. We incorporate strategies to develop a supportive and informative relationship with each student, as well as build a community of students by:
- Creating a safe and supportive environment for students to discuss personal issues and gather information.
- Building rapport between new students and teaching academic skills in a SMART START ORIENTATION before the semester begins.
- Providing trained mentor students who utilize reflective listening skills to enhance communication and also teach study techniques which build self esteem and success.
- Inviting and calling students during the semester to encourage early trouble-shooting of academic and personal issues, open communication, and active use of campus resources.
- Sending periodic newsletters and informational emails.
- Encouraging students to participate in dialogues about current issues or concerns that they may have.
Have a great week!
