COM’s new portal will launch April 28 The college’s new web portal, MyCOM, is scheduled to go live on April 28, 2008. The MyCOM Portal can be accessed by going to MyCOM or on the college website through the link currently titled “Student Portal”. The MyCOM portal will have several new features allowing students to search for available classes (in real-time), register for classes, check their grades, review their academic history, print an unofficial transcript, use their new College of Marin issued email address to communicate with instructors and much more. Accessing MyCOM requires a user-id and password (credentials). Credentials were mailed to our continuing credit and noncredit students on April 15, 2008. Over 17,000 students received portal registration information, including priority registration dates and instructions. Our new portal also offers many useful features for faculty who will be able to review up-to-date class rosters, submit grades online, send and receive email using MyCOM portal email; and update their contact information. Faculty also will be able use Course Studio from their portal site, which is similar to Blackboard CT. Many thanks to Bob Balestreri, Gina Longo and Admissions and Records staff for their praiseworthy efforts over many months. Also, IT staff members have worked tirelessly days, nights, and weekends to build the new portal and launch it in time for summer and fall registration. Great job everyone and many, many thanks to Burton Schane, Jeff Peck, and Aaron Osheroff for their tremendous efforts! Touchtone registration will be retired starting April 28 TouchTone registration is scheduled to be retired at the end of the spring 2008 semester for credit, noncredit, and not-for-credit Community Education. Noncredit and not-for-credit Community Education students may add classes using TouchTone through April 25, 2008. Credit students can check grades using TouchTone through July 31, 2008. There will be no TouchTone registration for summer or fall 2008. Students who have registered in the past using TouchTone registration are encouraged to use the new portal or register in-person at either Kentfield or IVC. All students in the continuing student database, who previously used TouchTone to register, were sent a letter informing them of new registration options. Other colleges that have converted from touchtone registration (old technology) to online web-based registration (new technology) have experienced unanimous favorable feedback from students. If students have any questions regarding registration, please have them contact Admissions at (415) 457-8811 ext. 8822.
