If you are a first time new hire, parking permits are provided by the Human Resources Office. Thereafter, Staff Permits are issued to regularly employed college staff and must be replaced before each October. Applications for staff permits are made available in the mail rooms of both campuses during July, August and September. To obtain a staff permit at other times, contact your department head or department administrative assistant for an application, or contact the Police Department at Ext. 7455. Try to keep up with the ever changing parking lot openings and closings during construction. Updates are sent to your marin.edu email address. You will also find updated campus parking maps in public areas across the campus. Students may purchase textbooks and supplies for all classes at the Kentfield Campus Bookstore. Books for classes which take place on the Indian Valley Campus may be purchased at the Indian Valley Campus only at the beginning of each semester. Textbook order form (Hard copy) You may obtain a textbook order form from the bookstore. You can also order books online. OR: To find this website from the college website, follow these steps:
Once you have logged in, follow these steps:
What happens after I submit my book information?
Will I be contacted by the bookstore/textbook manager about my submission?
New options for students: In addition to new and used copies of our textbooks that have always been available to students, the bookstore is now offering two new options:
Textbook Rental program: In this case students pay upfront about half the price of a new textbook and must give the bookstore a credit card number that is valid at least a month past the end of the semester. If they do NOT return the book, the bookstore will charge the difference plus a service fee. How are textbooks selected for the rental program?
How will I know if my textbook is available with these options?
Putting Books on Reserve in the Library Please consider putting copies of your textbooks on reserve in the library. Perhaps you have an extra copy you could loan to the library, can get an extra exam copy. Another option would be to ask your department to purchase a copy for this purpose. Given California’s budget cuts, book grants are less available and perhaps nonexistent. Having textbooks available in the library will give students who are unable to purchase the textbook right away a chance to keep up. To put a book on reserve:
Duplicating service for class materials is available through the Reprographics Center on the Kentfield Campus (LC Room 70). To assure that materials are available, materials to be duplicated should be submitted at least three working days in advance for any given class session. Attach a completed Printing Request Form to the material you wish duplicated and take it to the Reprographics Center (in the Learning Resources Center). IVC faculty may use Campus Courier for delivery of printing requests to the Kentfield Campus. Remember to mark IVC in the upper right hand corner of your printing request. Completed work will be returned to the IVC Mailroom Building AS 127). The Reprographics Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. You can drop off requests in the Kentfield Mailroom after hours. There is a "mailbox" on the center table. Place your request in the mail box and raise the flag! If you need to pick up your order after hours in the evening or on the weekend, please clearly indicate this on the request form. Completed jobs will be available on the counter in reprographics or for after-hours pick-up, on the counter in the Mailroom or in your mailbox if requested. Materials duplicated for College of Marin classes should not bear any business logos. If you wish to use the College logo on your cover page, the College will provide the stationery. The instructor's name and course name should be on the materials to be duplicated. Also, we encourage all instructors to create a packet of existing course materials that number 25 pages or more. The packet can then be sold to your students at the campus bookstores, and the duplication costs to your department will be significantly lower. Self-service copiers are located as follows:
See your Department Chair for a copy control number. Self-service copiers should not be used for making multiple copies of class materials. Please plan ahead for all your printing needs for the semester. Copyrights on Syllabi and Workbooks When using material from other sources for Syllabi or Workbooks that are to be printed and sold in the College of Marin bookstore, it is necessary to acquire written permission from the book or magazine publisher before your job can be printed. There are not exceptions to this rule, including limited or fair use. Recently, publishers have become very strict about use and the college has adopted this policy in order to avoid any legal issues regarding material. Please contact the Reprographics Supervisor if you have any questions. Audio-Visual equipment is available for use in classrooms and special events from the Media Services Department. Some classrooms have built-in LCD projectors, computers, DVD's and VCR's. Requests for all instructional media equipment should be submitted at least 24 hours in advance for the Kentfield Campus and a minimum of three days in advance for the IVC Campus. Equipment is reserved on a first come first served basis. Late requests will be honored only as time and equipment permit. Call Media Services directly to put in your request on campus at 7606 or 485-9606. WEBPAGE Media Services now has a new webpage from which you can order equipment online. It includes a list of services and available equipment as well as staff contact information. The Kentfield Campus Media Services hours are: Monday - Thursday 8:30 am to 8:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.Classroom Scheduling Conflicts Every effort is made to avoid having two classes assigned to the same room at the same time. It can happen, though, usually during a last minute scheduling change that comes too late to notify everyone concerned. If your class conflicts with another, please call your Department Chair. We will make a temporary room change. A new room will be assigned before your next class meeting. Bear with us; we know how disruptive the situation is, and we will do everything we can to resolve the conflict as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Please check the online schedule "revisions" section before your first class meeting to make sure there haven't been any last minute changes to your scheduled room. Please leave the classroom in the same condition in which you found it. At the end of each class, windows should be closed, blackboards erased, and desks returned to their original arrangement. If there is a problem in your room, please discuss the needed remedy with your Department Chair so that a work order can be issued. All classrooms have room capacities. If an unusually large number of students appear at the first class session, please do not add students beyond the seats available. Discuss the class size with your Department Chair and a room change will be made whenever possible. If you find that your room is too hot or too cold, please contact the administrative assistant for your department so that Maintenance can be notified. Instructors are authorized to have a key to their classrooms. Please check with your discipline's administrative assistant to make sure you have keys to your classroom. Key requests must be authorized by department chairs or deans. When you receive the key, please sign the white form and return it to her. Your keys should be returned after the last class meeting. Custodians will open – in an emergency. Occasionally, at the beginning of the semester, a Custodian might be asked by our office to open a classroom if the instructor has not yet received their key. It is usually the department Admin. Assistant that calls ahead and asks that the room be opened. The general rule of thumb on both campuses is that Police open the buildings in the early morning unless the building has a morning Custodian. Police do not open classrooms. Custodians lock up the buildings at night. In addition the back-up for evening classes held Monday through Thursday during the regular semester is to contact the evening Administrator to unlock a classroom door under special circumstances i.e. instructor left key at home; classroom change etc. The evening administrator can be contaced until 8:00 pm at:
In addition the Police can open a classroom in emergency situations. Keep in mind that if the officer is handling a situation he/she may not be able to respond right away and could delay the instructor’s classroom time. Therefore, it is important to have your own classroom key and remember to bring it with you! Also, be aware that the Media Services Department will lock any room after delivering equipment, so please be certain the room is locked again after class. Emergency Procedures Evenings and Saturdays There are three options, in case of an emergency on the Kentfield Campus at night or on Saturday:
If you need to be reached by a family member for an emergency after 7 or 8 pm or on Saturdays, you can be contacted through the Campus Police by calling the Police Dispatcher at 415-485-9696. You can also refer to the following information in case of other disaster: As always, in an life-threatening emergency, please call 911! If you are calling from a campus phone dail 9 first - so 9-911. Check-out. Library cards may be obtained at the Loan Desk. (Students will need a photo id.)
