The department policy is as follows:

 
Plagiarism, an unlawful act which is defined as the misrepresentation of the published ideas or words of another as one’s own, will not be tolerated in College of Marin English courses. At the discretion of the professor, plagiarism will be punished by either an F for the assignment or an F in the course.


Be diligent about enforcing this policy, but do not accuse a student unless the accusation is grounded in some evidence such as the recognition of a style or ability change or the known misuse of the source.  Use your judgment in determining the malice and willfulness of the offense.  You may want to consult a colleague in handling particularly difficult cases.
