College of Marin Swimming and Diving History

The past 2 years have produced some of the

best results in the long history of the Aquatic Mariners

In 2007 Ashley Karell was named the Bay Valley Conference Female Swimmer of the Year. Ashley won all 3 of her individual races at the Bay Valley Conference Championship and went on to a top 3 finish at the California Community College Swimming and Diving Championship. Ashley set new team records in the 50/100 fly and 100IM.   On the men’s side, diver Brennan Figari took a 4th place and a 4th place in the Northern California Community College Championships in 1 and 3 meter diving. Brendon then went on to 8th and 6th place finishes in his events at the state meet.  Both Ashley and Brendon earned United States Community College All-American awards.

In 2008 the Mariners recorded their second Bay Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year award in a row when Martin Malasky took the honor by winning all three of his events at the BVC Championship.  Martin took 3 top 8 finishes at the state meet while setting 3 new College of Marin team records. Martin narrowly missed qualifying for the US Olympic Trials by 7 one-hundredths of a second.   Female diver Anna Brandwene also excelled for the Mariners finishing with a 8th and an 6th in 1 and 3 meter diving at the state meet (after finishing 6th and 5th at Nor Cal’s).  Anna and Martin were also named to the Untied States Community College All-American Swimming and Diving Team.
