Staff Development The goal of the staff development program is to provide resources, training and opportunities that support the professional development needs of college employees; create a cohesive and supportive environment that recognizes and celebrates achievement; and improve institutional effectiveness with the ultimate goal of supporting student success. Staff Development activities are posted on the Faculty and Staff Calendar under Calendar of Events on the College home page.
Flex Program The Flexible Calendar program allows College of Marin to take 9 days out of the required 175 annual teaching days and devote them to professional development for faculty. Faculty may elect to attend workshops or perform individual activities on the Independent Flex days or during the semester. The Friday before classes begin each semester is a Mandatory Flex day that includes College Convocation in the morning and Academic Department Meetings in the afternoon. Flex activities are open to all faculty and staff. Some activities require registration. Check the Faculty and Staff Calendar link on the College Home Page for information about scheduled activities and updates. Note: Days converted to staff development use must be accounted for to the state. Faculty must identify how they met their Flex obligationeach semester by submitting a Flex Activities Verification Form to Human Resources by the last day of each semester. 4faculty.org - Online Professional Development for COM Faculty & Staff 4faculty.org is an online professional development network of resources and learning modules designed specifically for the needs of community college faculty. Whether you are a veteran instructor or just beginning to teach, 4faculty.org is a place where you can acquire new tools and resources to support and enhance your teaching. The more than 200 contributors to this site hope what you learn will help you reach your students more effectively and enhance their learning experience. The Staff Development Office maintains a subscription to 4faculty.org. Faculty may use time logged on this site to complete Flex hours. College of Marin Faculty, staff and administrators may access the site by following the prompts to create a personalized account at www.4faculty.org.
Banner Implementation The Staff Development Office is working with College Operations to coordinate end-user training as the College implements the Banner Enterprise Resource Program that will provide an integrated software system for Fiscal Services, Instructional Management, Student Services, Financial Aid and Human Resources. Fiscal Services, the first module to be implemented, went live July 1, 2007. Over 100 employees attended Self Service Finance Requisitioner and Approve training workshops June - September, 2007. The current Self-Service Finance Module Manual is posted in the Banner folder on the College Intranet.
Teaching Resource Center The Teaching Resource Center (LC 115) provides computers, internet access, printing and other resources for faculty and staff. The TRC is open for faculty and staff use Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30 PM when classes are in session.
California Educational Technology Collaborative (CETC) The California Educational Technology Collaborative (CETC), sponsored by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. offers an array of technology services, tools and resources.
