RAG Meeting Notes 8-10-2011

  1. President Coon

Dr. Coon praised RAG on: (1) RAG set the priorities on the success elements for Dashboard. (2) RAG monitored student success (math success rates was brought up by RAG). (3) RAG suggested the revision of the Integrated Planning Model--adding the circle of "Program Improvement" into the model.

  • Review RAG role, Research agenda, Next meeting

The committee reviewed RAG's role. The group suggested adding 4 additional tasks to the long-term goals:

(a) monitoring community engagement
(b) monitoring incoming high school students (focus group)
(c) monitoring assessments for junior and senior high school students
(d) monitoring transfer students who attended 4-year colleges (focus group)

  • Dashboard

Dashboard access and navigation were shared

  • ACCJC Rubrics

Shared ACCJC's memo (July 2011) regarding ACCJC Rubric for Evaluating Institutional Effectiveness.
Discussion about:

(a) where we (COM) are currently in the level of implementation at (a) planning, (b) program review, and (c) student learning outcomes;
(b) what were the expectation from ACCJC in Fall 2011: planning is expected to be at the sustainable continuous quality improvement, program review is expected to be at the sustainable continuous quality improvement; and student learning outcomes is expected to be at the development level.
(c) the expectation from ACCJC for the student learning outcomes in Fall 2012 is at the level of proficiency.

The group thought there were discrepancies regarding the level of implementation in the rubrics between people who were not involved deeply in the process vs people who were involved in the processes.

  • Planning processes surveys results--possible actions

Discussion of the planning processes surveys results: the college community's major concerns (strongest disagreement) were (a) budget allocation was based on planning (program review, SLO, etc.), (b) using program review results to improve programs. However, the resource allocations were approved after the surveys had been completed. Therefore, the college community had not seen the effect of the resource allocations.

Three possible actions:
(a) to communicate with community through President Briefing (monthly) about the action that PRAC takes and president's responds.
(b) to communicate with community through President Forum with special topics.
(c) to communicate with community other than written communication (some other innovative ways).
