Marin Chapter California Native Plant Society
Last year we re-found Astragalus nuttallii and Gilia capitata ssp. tomentosa after many years, so there is perhaps a chance for re-discovery of one or more the following plants.
Plagiobothrys chorisianus, Choris's popcorn-flower is found on coastal terraces in seasonally wet places,it flowers in early spring. This species was found near Bolinas in 1886 then again in 1960 but not since.
Polemonium carneum, Jacob's ladder, records in the UC./Jepson Herbarium exist - most recently from May 18th, 1939 - from Fort Barry, near Sausalito. Also Marin Flora records the plant as occurring near Point Bonita, on Angel Island, maybe near Salmon Creek, growing in most brushy places.
Pentachaeta bellidiflora, whiteray pygmy-daisy, was once quite abundant in Marin, Greenbrae, San Quentin Peninsula, (last sighting here in ca. 1970) east side of Mt. Tamapais, Corte Madera and Kentfield. This little daisy usually grows in open grassland especially on serpentinite. The only known remaining population is in San Mateo County.
Collinsia corymbosa, round-headed Chinese houses, there is a record from ca. 1900 in CAS herbarium from Pt. Reyes, an Alice Eastwood collection.Today the plants can be found on fore-dunes in Mendocino County at McKerricher State Park in early May growing along with Nemophila menziesii, baby-blue-eyes.
Cypripedium californicum, Ca. lady's-slipper orchid It would be a great find if anyone rediscovers this plant ! It was last collected by Alice Eastwood ca. 1900 in a wet, riparian serpentine habitat on the south side of Mt. Tamalpais.
Glehnia littoralis ssp. leiocarpa, American glehnia, last collected in beach sands just above the high tide levels at Dillon Beach. The old edition Marin Flora had it listed as Cymopteris littoralis.
