Highly invasive clonal perennial, sprouting from creeping roots. Forms
large colonies on levees, high tide lines, brackish marsh plains, and
alkali or subsaline seasonal wetlands throughout the estuary. Most
abundant in southern San Francisco Bay, Suisun and Martinez marsh areas,
and northern San Pablo Bay. Large, fleshy taproots have strong scent of
horseradish. (description by plant ecologist Peter Baye)
