New Payment Plan Will Help COM Students Pay for College Fees

Kentfield, CA-November 23, 2010—These are tough economic times and a record number of College of Marin students are applying for financial aid and scholarships to help pay for college costs. Financial aid awards at College of Marin have doubled over the past two years with Pell Grant awards increasing 94 percent between 2007-2008 and 2010-2011; and Stafford loans jumping 85 percent.

“Students need more help than is available through financial aid alone and we have come up with a plan to help ease the pressure of paying for fees,” said Bob Balestreri, Dean of Enrollment Services. “The new payment plan should be most useful for students who can’t afford to pay all of their fees at one time, but can afford to make payments over a few months.”

College of Marin is offering a new payment plan to help students pay for spring 2011 enrollment fees. It is not a loan program; therefore, students will not incur debt. In addition students will not have to pay finance charges and there is no credit check to qualify for the program.

The service will be provided by College of Marin using the Nelnet Business Solutions e-Cashier deferred payment plan. The cost to budget monthly payments is a $20 per semester nonrefundable enrollment fee. The enrollment fee is automatically deducted from a student’s bank account within 14 days of their agreement being posted to the FACTS/NBS system. Payments are automatically deducted on the 5th of each month from a checking or savings account. Students must have a minimum balance of $600 to participate in a monthly payment plan.

The spring 2011 semester starts Jan. 22. New and readmit students can begin registering for classes on Dec. 7 online at www.marin.edu via CCCApply or the MyCOM portal. Students can then enroll in the payment plan using their MyCOM portal account. For additional information regarding paying for enrollment fees please go to http://www.marin.edu/Admissions/feesinfo.html or call Nelnet Business Solutions/FACTS at 800.609.8056.
