COM Board Approves MOU with Marin Conservation Corps for Organic Farm

September 17, 2008—Kentfield, CA—A Memorandum of Understanding between College of Marin (COMJ) and the Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) was approved at last night’s monthly meeting of the College of Marin Board of Trustees. The MOU clarifies the roles of COM and MCC in the operation of the Indian Valley Organic Farm at the District’s Indian Valley Campus in Novato, CA.

The proposed Indian Valley Organic Farm will serve as a learning environment for students, professionals, and community members interested in organic gardening. The farm will support two programs: COM’s Environmental Landscape Program, which includes certificate and associate degree options, and MCC’s Organic Farm and Garden Program, which serves young adults and youths.

Indian Valley Organic Farm will offer students and community members various opportunities to learn about ecological principals, crop propagation, nursery operations, native plant propagation and ecological restoration.

Other partners in the endeavor include UC Cooperative Extension and Marin Master Gardeners. For more information contact Workforce Development Dean Nanda Schorske at ext. 8506.
