News Contact: COM Celebrates its 83rd Annual Commencement Marin Community Foundation CEO will be Commencement Speaker Kentfield, CA— May 25, 2010 —COM’s 83rd Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at the Athletics Complex, Baseball Field, behind the Diamond PE Center, on the Kentfield Campus (PLEASE NOTE: If fields are wet due to unseasonal rain, the ceremony will be held in the Diamond PE Center Gymnasium). Of the approximately 276 students receiving degrees and certificates this year, about 100 students will participate in the formal ceremony. The youngest graduate is 15 and the oldest is 69 years old. The total number of associate in arts degrees conferred is 152, the total number of associate in science degrees is 95, and the total number of certificates is 57 (some students earned both a degree and a certificate.) Frances L. White, Ph. D., Superintendent/President will welcome the graduating class. Nick Chang, vice president of student learning, will introduce the student speaker, Ghazaleh Vargha Najafabadi. Eva Long, Ph.D., president of the Board of Trustees, will introduce the commencement address speaker, Thomas Peters, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Marin Community Foundation. Chang will present the graduating class. Dr. White and Dr. Long will confer the degrees and certificates. Yolanda Bellisimo, Academic Senate president, will give the closing address. Guests may arrive between 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No tickets are required.
