Veterans Recognition Day Panel Discussion

Welcoming Your Warrior Home: How to Honor, Support and Relate to Your Returning Service Member.

KENTFIELD, CA—April 25, 2014—A panel of visiting speakers will be on campus to talk about how we can best support military members and veterans in our lives and provide information on available resources in the area for veterans, friends and families. Come by and enjoy refreshments and meet College of Marin veterans, Blue Star Moms of Marin and supporters. The event is sponsored by College of Marin Veterans Association and Blue Star Moms of Marin. Panelists include:

  • Sean Stephens, Marin County Veterans Services officer, who served four consecutive tours of duty with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan and will outline the many services available to veterans in Marin County.
  • Steve Countouriotis, retired lieutenant colonel, who served 30 years in the U.S. Army, including three tours of duty in Iraq and two in Afghanistan, will offer ways in which military families can face together the challenges of returning from deployment. Three of Countouriotis’ children are also combat veterans, one of whom was wounded in action.
  • Phillip Conner, retired lieutenant colonel, an Army chaplain for 22 years, served three years at an Army addiction treatment facility and will discuss identifying and responding to injury to the soul of the returning veteran.
  • Carrie Bancroft, a licensed social worker and program manager at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center, will explain services available to veterans at the VA hospital.
