Music Department Presents COM Symphony Orchestra

Paul Smith, conductor/pianist
Joanna Pinckney, guest conductor

For the second concert the orchestra performs three movements from Ludwig van Beethoven’s ballet The Creatures of Prometheusfollowed by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s fascinating Cantus Arcticus. This hauntingly beautiful work is a concerto for taped sounds of the migrating geese and orchestra. After intermission, concertmaster Joanna Pinckney assumes the podium and Paul Smith is piano soloist in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
