Harvesting the Music Tree: Sustainable African Blackwood

A lecture and exhibit by Brenda Schuman-Post, guest lecturer

Virtuoso oboist Brenda Schuman-Post takes you on a verbal, visual, and tactile safari to explore what’s going on worldwide for the preservation and continued use of this valuable, vulnerable, earth healing tree that grows primarily in Tanzania and Mozambique. Discover a connection between music, art, botany, forestry, ecology, conservation, and the environment. African Blackwood (mpingo, granadilla) becomes flutes, oboes, clarinets, bagpipes, sculpture, and medicine.
