College of Marin Trustees Fill Vacant Seat
Stuart Tanenberg Appointed to Serve as Trustee
KENTFIELD, CA—April 2, 2014—At a special meeting last night held at the College of Marin Kentfield Campus, the Board of Trustees selected Stuart Tanenberg to fill the seat left open by the resignation of former Trustee Dr. James Namnath. Namnath resigned in February when he moved to the Sacramento area for work related purposes.
The position was advertised in local newspapers and fourteen applications were received. Seven were selected to be interviewed last night. There were several rounds of interviews. After each round Trustees selected their top candidates and the field was narrowed to three, then to two, and in the last round Tanenberg was selected.
College of Marin Superintendent/President David Wain Coon, Ed.D., commends the Board of Trustees for developing a transparent process to fill the empty seat. “The process was fair, transparent, and resulted in the selection of a candidate who has many years of experience and is well suited for the position,” said Coon.
Tanenberg has lived in Marin for 40 years and brings to College of Marin over 30 years of experience having served on various local boards, councils and committees. He has previously served as president of both the Larkspur Corte Madera School District Board of Trustees and the Marin County Special Education Advisory Council. In his application for the position Tanenberg stated that he will work collaboratively and is committed to the College’s success. “I am well aware of the importance of providing oversight and accountability and will be diligent in that effort,” Tanenberg said. Tanenberg will serve through 2015, at which time his seat will be up for re-election.
“We are all very pleased to welcome Stuart to the College and are looking forward to working with him in the coming months,” said Coon. “His significant experience on boards and extensive business acumen will be great assets to the College as we move forward.”
Tanenberg is the Chief Executive Officer of Beressi Custom Manufacturing Company and resides in Larkspur, CA. He has an MBA from Dominican University of California and a BS in Business Administration from San Jose State University.
