Science Center Site Preparation Continues This Weekend
Tree relocation includes four small redwoods and 15 other trees
KENTFIELD, Calif.— February 11, 2010 —Site preparation for the College of Marin’s new Science / Math / Central Plant Complex will continue tomorrow (Friday, February 12) with relocation of 19 trees (including four small redwoods) away from the footprint of the planned building to other sites on campus. The Board of Trustees awarded a contract for this work to Treemasters Tree and Garden Care (San Rafael) on January 19.
Of a total of 180 trees within the project site boundary, 139 trees will remain in place and will be protected during construction. Another 22 diseased or root-bound trees (none of them redwoods) will be recycled for mulch to be used elsewhere on campus.
The tree program was developed with the College of Marin Landscape Supervisor, District Arborist and Modernization Team.
In order to reduce the amount of noise and disturbance to campus and surrounding neighborhoods, the work will start on Friday and Saturday, February 12 and 13, and continue for a few additional Fridays until the work is completed. Parking Lot 4 (off Laurel Avenue) will be closed while this tree work is going on.
A map of the relocation project is posted in the Administration Building hallway opposite AC 118, and in the Swinerton office (Portable Village PE 8). For more information, please contact Swinerton Management & Consulting at 415-884-3139.
