When to Apply

Fall 2016: August 22 – December 8, 2016
Completed application will be accepted MARCH through JULY 15 of each year.

Spring 2017: January 23, 2017 – May 19, 2017
Completed application will be accepted SEPTEMBER through NOVEMBER 15 of each year

How to Apply

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR F-1 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

1. Neatly and clearly fill out the F-1 Intensive English Application Form.

2. Gather all additional documentation required for the application, including the following:

a. A copy of your passport identification page(s). The copy must show your picture, full name, date of birth, passport number, and expiration date. Please be sure the copy is clear and easy to read!

b. Show evidence of the financial resources available to you. Applicants must show their ability to pay the Minimum Total Estimated Cost listed on the application for either one or two semesters. Applicants must supply original supporting financial documentation to support their ability to cover this cost. Original supporting financial documentation may include, but is not limited to, signatures or stamps from bank officials, official bank statements, official award letters, an Affidavit of Support, letter of government support, or other supporting evidentiary documents. Applicants should demonstrate the full range of financial support available to them. 

3. Don’t forget to sign your application!

4. Submit your application by mail to the address listed below. Make sure to include all additional documentation required!

5. A non-refundable application fee is required to process your application. You may submit your non-refundable application fee ($50 for one semester, or $100 for two semesters) by check made payable to College of Marin with your application. If you would like to pay online with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard), please contact the International Office and they will send you a link for payment. We do not accept cash. 

Transfer and Change-of-Status students only: 

 In addition to the steps above, please submit:

1. A copy of your I-94, I-20, and all other official visa and immigration documentation.

2. An Intensive English Program Transfer Form (which will be provided to you with your Welcome Letter upon acceptance into the program).

Submit Your Application:

Applications can be downloaded, printed, and submitted by mail. Applications can be submitted by email, however original supporting documents must be submitted by regular mail.

Expedited Documents:

If you wish to have your acceptance packet (including your I-20) sent to you by FedEx, please submit a $100 non-refundable fee by check, money order, or cashier’s check. All other acceptance packets will be sent by standard mail.

Upon Acceptance:

Applicants who are accepted into the program will receive an acceptance letter and a Form I-20. You will need your I-20 when you apply for your F-1 student visa. The original I-20 is yours to keep. A copy of the signed original must be submitted to the International Education Office within the first week of classes. The Form I-20 is your most important legal document while in the United States; make sure to keep it safe. If you are a transfer student currently enrolled in a US institution, you must complete the Intensive English Program Transfer Form, which will be included with your welcome letter. The form must then be signed by a DSO from your previous school. A copy of your IEP acceptance letter must be submitted with your Transfer Form to your previous school. Please note that College of Marin will be unable to complete the admissions process or generate a new I-20 until your previous school has signed the Transfer Form and releases your file in SEVIS.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Payment:

All payments must be in U.S. Dollars. Applicants receiving an acceptance packet are required to submit tuition, fees, and medical insurance fee before the first day of class. Payments can be made with check, money order, cashier’s check, or credit card. Tuition can be paid online or over the phone with Visa or MasterCard. We do not accept cash. 

Tuition Refund Policy:

Students may request a refund during the first two weeks of the semester. Refund requests submitted after the second week will not be accepted and the full price of tuition and fees will be incurred. A service fee may be charged for all tuition refunds. Please note that medical insurance is non-refundable and will not be refunded at any time or under any circumstance.

SEVIS Processing:

A SEVIS fee of $200.00 must be paid to the United States Department of Homeland Security before you can apply for or renew an F-1 visa or request a change of status to F-1. For more information on the SEVIS fee, please visit www.FMJfee.com. The SEVIS processing fee can only be paid after you receive your Form I-20.

Maintaining Visa Status: 

Students must comply with all Federal and school requirements necessary to stay in good visa standing with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Students on an F-1 Student Visa, should consider these requirements and policies before applying for a visa.

Please note:  International Student Orientation takes place at the Kentfield Campus on August 2, 2016 for all new international students in the Intensive English Program as well as for new credit international students. During the orientation students will learn about campus resources including counseling, enrollment services, student services including clubs, health center, safety information, and campus tour. Intensive English Program orientation, testing, and placement take place for all new and returning students.

Conditional Admissions Agreement

Intensive English Program (IEP) Matriculating To International Student Credit Program

Students who have successfully completed Level 3 of the College of Marin Intensive English Program (IEP) will be granted a waiver of the TOEFL or IELTS Exam at the College of Marin International Student Credit Program. Students will also be granted a waiver of the $50.00 application processing fee. All other conditions for admissions to the International Student Credit Program must be met. They are as follows:

  • Completion of an International Student Credit Admissions Application.
  • Verification of adequate financial support by completing the Official Certification of Personal or Family Money form. Required amount of financial support varies by academic year.
  • Completion of all transfer documentation as required through SEVIS.
