Coach Carlos Suarez enters his 1st season as the Head Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field programs at College of Marin. He will be coaching the sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, distance runners and relay teams for the Mariners.
Prior to joining the Mariners, Coach Suarez was an assistant coach at Sacramento City College. In his time at SCC, he lead his athletes to numerous conference and state championship appearances while helping them improve their personal bests and perform well with their academics.
As an athlete, Carlos competed for the Chico State University Wildcats Cross County and Track & Field teams while earning his Bachelors of Arts degree in Kinesiology. While competing at Chico State, Carlos helped the wildcats win back-to-back CCAA Conference Championships.
Prior to Chico State, Coach Suarez competed for the Sacramento City College Track & Field and Cross Country teams where he helped the Panthers win the Track & Field State Championship in 2007, along with back to back-to-back conference and regional titles while earning his A.A. degree. He was a back-to-back state finalist in the 1500m for the Panthers. Carlos also was a state finalist for the Panthers in Cross Country. Carlos served as Team Captain at SCC.
Coach Suarez recently completed his Master’s of Arts Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. He also holds a USTF Level I Certification along with a Level II Certification in the Combined Events.
Coach Suarez was born and raised in Lodi, CA. His favorite sports teams are the San Francisco 49ers and the Indiana Pacers. He looks forward to building on the past success of Marin Track and Field and is eager to help student-athletes reach their academic and athletic potential. His favorite quote comes from coaching legend John Wooden: “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”
