College of Marin Women's Basketball Coaching Staff
Coach Tannea Nelson is in her fifth season as the head women’s basketball coach at the College of Marin. Coach Nelson is from the bay area and graduated from El Cerrito school in 1994. After graduation Coach Nelson received a scholarship to play Division I basketball at Cal State Northridge.
Coach Nelson started her coaching career in 1999 as an assistant at Diablo Valley College. Coach Nelson worked there as an assistant for 2 years before returning to school to receive her master’s in Sport Psychology. In 2003 Coach Nelson worked as an intern at COM as a sport psychology consultant for the women’s basketball team. That year Nelson had the opportunity to work under Mike Fulton (Branson), and a team that played in the Junior College State Championships. During the spring in 2003 Nelson took a job as an assistant at Dominican University hooking back up with Scott Davis (Cal Poly Pomona Women’s Head basketball coach). During Nelson’s 2 years at Dominican she was apart of 2 National Tournament appearances and 2 Conference Titles. In 2003-2004 Dominican finished the season 29-9. In 2004-2005 the team went 30-4 and were ranked 5th nationally in the NAIA polls. Coach Nelson also is a coach for Strictly Hoops AAU club which is based out of Marin.
Coach Nelson is a 1998 graduate of Cal State Northridge with a BA in Sociology, minor in Criminology. Nelson also received her Master’s in Sport Psychology in 2004 from John F. Kennedy University. Nelson currently works as a Mental Health Counselor in Concord. Nelson is single and resides in Vallejo, CA. |
