About Us Janice Austin is acting Director of the Community Education, Lifelong Learning and International Education Programs, overseeing program development, content, marketing and international student recruitment for the college. An academician and faculty member at both university and community college levels, she strongly believes in the essential mission of the community college to make education accessible and affordable to the community. Austin has a Master of Fine Arts degree in writing from Arizona State University, a love of language, flora and fauna; she is also a certified Master Gardener in California and Arizona. Karen van Kriedt, as a Program Specialist, assists instructors with program planning and course development and shepherds the schedule of classes through the publication process. She also works closely with the Emeritus Students Curriculum Committee as a staff resource. Karen is lucky enough to live in a sunny, peaceful home in the San Geronimo Valley. She likes nothing better than to be at home on her days off with her dog, Cody, her cat, Miss Kitty, her nutty bird, Freddy, and her wonderful husband, Steve. When she finds a spare minute, she works on her musical, Salmon Crossing. Cheryl Carlson, as a Program Specialist, maintains the course data base for Community Education, does some web updating and works with the community to rent college facilities at both Kentfield and Indian Valley locations. If you need heat or air turned on or a door unlocked, she’s the one to call. Cheryl has a fine arts background, and at home is always working on more than one project at a time, as well as in her garden where she loves to be. Jesse Klein is the Administrative Assistant for the Community Education organization and handles faculty contracts and other payroll and budgetary items for the program. She oversees essential details in the daily operations of the program to keep it running smoothly. Jesse enjoys cooking, singing and shopping during her free time. Teaching children and mentoring young people are her passion. Heather Peitz is the Office Technician for the Community Education organization. She is available to assist students and staff and really enjoys working with the public and problem-solving, when needed. She can help with registration information and online access. Heather loves to knit and crochet and is always working on a project at lightning speed. She has a wonderful husband, Dave, and two handsome sons, Daniel and David. Animals play a big part in her life; she currently has a dog, Baylie and a cat, Zoie.
