About me

Dr. Jason Lau is the Director of Community Education, Lifelong Learning and International Education Programs, overseeing program development, content, marketing and international student recruitment for the College of Marin. He is committed to the college’s long tradition of providing excellent educational opportunities for all members of our diverse community.

Dr. Lau graduated, summa cum laude, receiving a B.A. in Leisure Services and a M.A. in Leisure, Youth, and Human Services Administration from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls.  He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies (concentration: Higher Education Management) from the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at The University of Iowa, Iowa City.

Dr. Lau was the recipient of the University of Northern Iowa Alumni Association's Heritage Honours Young Alumnus Award which recognizes graduates of 40 years of age or younger who have excelled in their professions at a young age.

Dr. Lau has more than 14 years of professional experience in student development in higher education. He has served as the Assistant Director of the Camp Adventure™ program at the University of Northern Iowa since 2005. This nationally award-winning program has been successfully implemented at program sites in 27 countries/territories, serving 750,000 children and youth annually based on daily participation rates. Dr. Lau was directly responsible for securing nearly $1.5 million federal contracts and international agreements with contract partners, including all 4 branches of the U.S. military, U.S. embassies, corporate clubs, international schools and universities overseas. He also has extensive international experience, having lived/worked/studied abroad in 8 different countries/territories, including Hong Kong, The Peoples’ Republic of China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Macau, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Dr. Lau enjoys working with students and learning new technology. He has a lovely wife, Mavis, a wonderful son, Harrison, and a beautiful dog (sheltie), Vino.
