THE NATURE CONSERVANCYThe Nature Conservancy is a private, non-profit conservation organization incorporated in 1951, dedicated to the acquisition and management of ecologically significant land. Through its efforts, over 8 million acres of islands, forests, marshes, streams, lakes, beaches and prairie lands in the United States and Canada have been preserved. The Conservancy identifies lands with threatened animals, plants or natural lands threatened by development, and utilizes a variety of methods to preserve these natural resources. Occasionally, it will purchase the threatened property outright, establish it as a preserve, and will take on the duties of management, which is what it has done with Ring Mountain since 1983. Ring Mountain is part of the 522,719 acres in California managed by the The Nature Conservancy of California, a regional branch of the international nonprofit organization. |
